This morning I sat down with Terapeak’s new Director of Product Management Max Kless.

Max is eager to connect with Terapeak users and intends to work with them to build Terapeak into the most powerful research and insight tool for online sellers.

Ryan: Max how long have you been with Terapeak and what is your goal as Director of Product Management?

Max: I joined Terapeak in 2010 and have traveled around the world on behalf of Terapeak. It’s allowed me to meet many of our customers face to face in all corners of the globe so I have a good start on understanding of what customers want and expect from us. One of my main goals as Director of Product Management is to connect the Terapeak users to the Terapeak team – a customer liason of sorts. In that respect, I’m responsible for making your Terapeak experience the best it can be by improving our existing products and creating new ones.

Ryan: How are you working to incorporate customer feedback into Terapeak?

Max: I’m working closely with our Customer Service and Marketing teams to get feedback and suggestions as they come in. Terapeak users are smart entrepreneurs – they have built their businesses from the ground up and have specific goals. I want to make sure we are in touch with those goals and create the tools to help sellers meet their goals.

Ryan: How can users connect with you, aside from the usual email?

Max: One of the first things I did was build quick polls into Terapeak, which you may have already noticed. Participation in the polls has been phenomenal over the last few weeks, so thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! By responding, you’re giving me an avenue to prioritize how we improve Terapeak.

Ryan: Is there any other closing words you would like to impart on the Terapeak community?

Max: Definitely! My commitment is to be your representative inside Terapeak. You can look forward to hearing more from me and my team moving forward!

So there you have it folks! Max is here and in your corner to build Terapeak as the most customer centric research and insight tool available for your business. Max would love to hear your top feature requests for Terapeak in the comments section of this post.

Terapeak is a phenomenal tool for helping you source hot products. Today we explore arbitrage opportunities with the classic children’s toys from Playmobil. Playmobil has been releasing toy sets for over 30 years now and as a result they have become highly collectible and a great target for arbitrage. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of arbitrage it can be easiest explained as taking advantage of the differences in pricing of a product between market places. Today we will look at how I used Terapeak to identify a valuable set to purchase while at London Drugs . I can sell this item on eBay for profit, and my investment is very low.

Here’s how it worked:

While I was out doing some shopping I came across a bunch of Playmobil sets on clearance at the checkout. I looked a few of them up using Terapeak on my iPhone.

I found this Playmobil Fire House set. Terapeak showed me that it was discontinued and worth around between $70-$100. The item isn’t listed very often so it is best suited for a fixed price or store listing so you can price it and wait for the right buyer to come along instead of gambling on a bid auction.

Stores often clear out older and discontinued product because it takes up valuable space. These discontinued items frequently sell at a premium online to the right buyer. You, the arbitrageur take advantage of these inefficiencies often at a great profit.

Anthony, Ian and Max have made it safely back to Terapeak HQ in sunny Victoria, BC. However, before Ian & Anthony flew back they rented a Ferrari F430 Spider for an afternoon. The Ferrari F430 Spider is the convertible version of the F430 it has a six speed manual transmission and comes packed with a 4.3L V8 engine. The manufacturer suggested retail price in the United States ranges from $185,000 to $220,000. Renting the car involved signing a five page agreement of things they would NOT do with the car. According the gentleman going over the paperwork with them no matter how ridiculous some of the rules were they were all things that had occurred in the past. They were also informed that 21mph over the speed limit is an arrest-able offense in the fine state of Nevada.

It definitely looks like the boys had a fun afternoon on their last day in Vegas!

Neroli Schutt is the event manager for the 2012 PeSA Internet Conference, at which Terapeak CEO & President Kevin North will be presenting. His topic “The world is your market ” will include insights into how to best use research to maximise opportunities in the online retail space. PeSA Internet Conference, run by the Professional ecommerce & eBay Sellers Alliance, is due to run on the Gold Coast May 30 to June 1, 2012, you can visit Terapeak there too!

Why attend a conference at all?
There is a clear case for working ON, not just IN your business. Taking time away from your office to listen to new ideas, construct better strategies and meet like minded people can give you renewed motivation, deliver a clearer focus and best of all, teach you practical ways to enhance your business.

So once you’ve committed to working on your business, what else should you look for in a conference?

Content is KING
Who are the keynotes speakers? Do they have solid backgrounds in successful online businesses? Do the speakers offer you true HOW TOs rather than merely theoretical strategies for you to deploy immediately on your return to work? Is there a mixture of content for a broad range of business sizes? This is particularly important as, no matter what your current turnover is, some of the best learning points can be found from similar businesses of differing sizes. For example: Big business can show you how to grow and smaller businesses may be able to offer simple/cost effective solutions to universal issues.

There’s over 60 content sessions at PeSA, divided into five content streams. PeSA Internet Conference is focused on practicality – the HOW to sell online, not the THEORY of selling online. The people behind Internet Conference are experienced online sellers, ensuring that all Conference content is highly relevant to those who are in the business of online retailing.

Sometimes, it’s who you know…
Running an online business can be isolating. The chances are that no matter what issue you’ve ever faced in business, someone else has been there too. Meeting like minded people not only gives you a chance to connect, but also sharing hints and build relationships that give you a place to turn when future issues arise.

PeSA expects over 600 delegates in 2012. We have learned that delegates ask for more opportunities to network with fellow attendees. PeSA Internet Conference 2012 has three dedicated social networking events in its 2 and a half day program, plus the chance to network at every break.
